The Nevesota
In the nineteen-twenties, there were others helping shape the face of Fabulous Las Vegas. While the mob was busy establishing the public image, helping give birth to this town being known as the “city of sin,” pioneers of the gaming world Clarence Reed, Clarence Ray and Bill Jones broke the mold by establishing the first black-owned gaming club. The Navesota opened its doors in the early nineteen-hundreds, welcoming all patrons during a time filled with discrimination. Some may still know Las Vegas only as “Sin City,” but in the nineteen-twenties, three men helped show the world that Las Vegas has a heart made of people doing great things.
